Dec 05, 2019 (newstodate): Prospects for more flights between Kazakhstan and Finland are widening with fresh talks between the two countries' aviation authorities in Nur-Sultan, earlier named Astana.
Under Kazakhstan's open skies policy, its has been agreed that the volume of weekly flights between the two countries is increased to 14 rotations, including seven on each on the routes between Nur-Sultan and Almaty, respectively.
Finnair performed its first-ever flight between Helsinki and Nur-Sultan on June 20, 2017, offering two weekly rotations till August 11, in connection with the World Expo 2017 in the Kazakh capital, when Kazakhstan also introduced a test period with open skies for all airlines.
Finnair has since been operating two weekly rotations on the route during summer periods, but was actually allowed to go up to seven weekly rotations to Nur-Sultan.
It now remains to be seen if frequency on Finnair's flights to Nur-Sultan will increase in summer 2020, and if the carrier will also add new flights to Almaty, in the south of the country.
