Dec 10, 2019 (newstodate): For a market the size of China, a freighter fleet of 161 aircraft seems a modest size. This will change..
According to the Aviation Industry Corporation of China, the country's freighter fleet will grow to some 723 aircraft over the next 20 years, driven not least by the rapid expansion of domestic demand for courier services.
AVIC estimates 330 of the freighters be in the narrow-body segment in 2038, while large and medium wide-body freighter fleets will grow to 174 and 219 units, respectively.
Today, AVIC estimates that less than 45 percent of the FTKs generated by Chinese carriers is carried on freighters, with the remaining cargo lifted in passengers aircraft bellies.
The freighter-carried proportion is however expected to exceed 55 percent by 2038, driven by the domestic demand for rapid to-door shipment deliveries.
