Dec 04, 2019 (newstodate): An undisclosed airline is soon to enter Armenia's air transport market.
According to the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Committee of Armenia, speaking to members of the Armenian Parliament, the airline will launch services from summer 2020, initially offering flights to 13 destinations served by a total of 41 weekly rotations.
The entry into the market of new operators will be supported by an incentive scheme offering support on routes un-served for more than 12 months, while committing airlines under the scheme to sustain services on a year-round basis.
Incentives will be granted for a period of three years, with options for another two-year prolongation.
The entry of the coming new airline is expected to add some 300,000 passengers to the current volumes that reached is today around three mio passengers per year.
While it remains to be seen which airline is actually to launch business in Armenia, two European low-cost operators are already in the picture.
Ryanair will start operations to Yerevan and Gyumri from Milan, Rome, Berlin and Memmingen from January 2020 after sniffing at the Armenian market already from 2013, with plans for start of services in 2014.
At the same time, the Armenian Tourism Center earlier this year revealed talks with another European LCC, presumably Wizz Air, over the opening of flights into Gyumri, in the country's northwestern region, close to the border with Turkey.
