Dec 13, 2019 (newstodate): In the latest update of its Air Safety Black List, the EU Commission put the Armenian Civil Aviation Committee under heightened scrutiny because of signs of a decrease in safety oversight.
No Armenian carriers have, however, so far been included on the list currently comprising 115 airlines from 15 states banned from entering EU airspace.
Operating on Armenian AOCs are today only Aircompany Armenia, now operating two aircraft and starting operations on April 21, 2016, and Armenia Airways that launched business only on June 15, 2019, with a fleet of three aircraft.
A third carrier, Taron-Avia, founded in 2007 and last operating a fleet of three aircraft, folded its wings in November 2019 after losing its AOC as an inspection detected serious safety flaws.
Earlier this month, the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Committee of Armenia, speaking to members of the Armenian Parliament, said that a new national airline will launch services from summer 2020, initially offering flights to 13 destinations served by a total of 41 weekly rotations.
