Nov 05, 2019 (newstodate): With the opening a new cargo terminal in June 2018, Tajikistan's Dushanbe Airport is well-prepared to serving the global and domestic air cargo industry.
Backed by loans from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency, the new cargo facility allows the airport to grow the handling of cargo the airport in line with its ambitions for a larger role in the regional and global air cargo industry.
The 4,000 sq m cargo terminal is designed for handling of up to 12,000 tonnes of cargo annually, with a refrigeration system for handling and storage of perishables, and RAPISCAN for fast, accurate and efficient cargo inspection.
The only problems is lack of cargo at Dushanbe Airport that has been handling only eight tonnes of cargo during the first nine months of this year, down 30.4 percent, y-o-y.
