Nov 19, 2019 (newstodate): After several losses in the intercontinental traffic, Sweden's Stockholm Airport can find consolation in news from Japan.
From summer 2020, the Japanese carrier ANA, member of the Star Alliance, plans to launch direct non-stop services from Tokyo Haneda Airport to Stockholm Airport using Boeing 787 aircraft on the route.
ANA thus ends 30 years of absence of direct flights between Sweden and Japan.
The volume of passengers on flights between Sweden and Japan has expanded by 50 percent over the last year, and the coming new route is also supported by strong needs among businesses trading between Japan and Sweden, with some 150 Swedish companies established in Japan and some 160 Japanese companies established in Sweden.
Beyond the happy tidings, no details are yet provided on launch date, frequency and exact aircraft type.
Speculations are that, in return, SAS may obtain slots at Tokyo Haneda Airport for new flights between Copenhagen and Tokyo.
