One operator usually taking the lead in Santa Claus flights from the UK to Kittala, Rovaniemi, Enontekio, Ivalo, and Kuusamo was Thomas Cook that has, however, folded its wings.
This year, among the airlines stepping in to save the Christmas traffic from the UK is Finnair that will be operating 23 flights from London Heathrow and London Gatwick, primarily to destinations Rovaniemi, Ivalo and Kittila.
Over-all, the Finnish Santa Claus air traffic is a huge business, in 2018 generating 677 Christmas charters, which was 89 more flights than the preceding year- and in 2016 503 charter flights from European destinations and 401 domestic flights in Finland headed towards Rovaniemi and Kittila.
