Nov 11, 2019 (newstodate): Latvia's Riga Airport is pursuing its strategy of establishing its position as the leading cargo airport in the region as well as an e-trade logistics hub.
Earlier this month, the airport announced the signing of an agreement with developer Castor Construction for construction of a 4,500 sq m shipment processing and logistics center for DHL Express, to be commissioned within a year.
Already underway is construction of a new cargo apron with an underground refuelling system to be completed in the near future, allowing Riga Airport to double its cargo handling capacity, while relieving the pressure on the existing aircraft parking areas.
The new apron will feature three wide-body aircraft parking stands with a flexible layout accommodating all types of cargo aircraft.
Earlier, Riga Airport also aired plans for developing a modern 10,000 sq m cargo facility in cooperation with investors, and by the end of this year the airport will announce a tender for land development for construction of a multi-tenant cargo logistics center.
