Nov 07, 2019 (newstodate): Plans for a new freighter service to lift Norwegian seafood directly out of Bodo Airport, in Northern Norway, are followed closely by seafood exporters in the region.
-We are indeed very interested in seeing this project materializing as it will spare hours on trucks for seafood shipments to reach air services to China, says a marketing executive in one of the large seafood companies in the region on conditions of anonymity.
-Our company is seeing a significant increase in fresh salmon exports to China, but lack of efficient logistics is a bottleneck in our efforts to tap deeper into this market.
However, stakeholders in the project keep the cards tight.
-The process in moving forward and one issue holding back the launch of the coming new freighter service is the unsettled slot application at the Chinese destination, a source within the working group, also requesting anonymity, earlier told newstodate.
-Many other issues have been solved, including an agreement with the yet-undisclosed airline that will operate the flights from Bodo Airport to the Chinese destination via its hub.
-We expect the landing right issue to be solved shortly, with start of the freighter service by November 2019, the source says.
Behind the project is Flybyen, an agency set up by Bodo Commune to spur the development of aviation business in the region, and supporting the project are reportedly several major seafood exporters in the region as well as the Avinor-operated Bodo Airport.
