Nov 22, 2019 (newstodate): In October, reports were that the Chinese carrier Juneyao Airlines planned to add flights to Keflavik as an extension of the existing route between Shanghai and Helsinki, in Finland.
This plan seems to have been shelved.
Instead, Juneyao Air will extend the Shanghai-Helsinki route to Manchester, in the UK, starting from March 2020, with the coming new summer schedule.
The route will be Juneyao Airlines’ first fifth freedom service and the only direct service from a UK city outside London to Shanghai.
Juneyao Air launched flights between Shanghai and Helsinki on June 28, 2019, with daily rotations during the summer schedule, using Boeing 787-9 aircraft with up to 20 tonnes of cargo capacity with a full cabin.
During the winter schedule, the carrier has gone down to three weekly rotations, but it will return to seven weekly rotations on the route from March 20, 2020.
So - no immediate hopes in Iceland for at Shanghai-connection any time soon, which would otherwise have proved a boon for the country's seafood exporters.
