Nov 14, 2019 (newstodate): Competition among airfreight forwarders in Norway's booming seafood logistics is stiff - but there is still room for start-ups.
One such company is M3Cargo that launched business only from June 1, 2019, at Lakselv, a center for seafood export business in the country's northern region.
-Seafood logistics is marked by very tight profit margins, strong competition and pressure on costs, says Jan Roger Jordet, in charge of daily operations and formerly with DHL Global Forwarding, and one of a triumvirate also comprising Gorm Fekstad, formerly with DHL Quality Cargo, and Fred Persen who is Chairman of the Board and former DHL Global Forwarding Export Supervisor.
-We are a small team but bring together rich experience from years in the seafood logistics and forwarding industries, translating into a strong network and close relations to key players. We have come off to a good start and are quite optimistic about the future, says Mr Jordet.
-Today, seafood shipments from Northern Norway is primarily trucked out of the region into Oslo Airport and Helsinki Airport as well as onward to the main European hubs. This entails long hours on the road, but so far various attempts to set up direct freighter flights out of the region have failed, including the latest efforts by DHL in the form of a freighter service from Lakselv into Oslo Airport.
-We are definitely in need of a direct scheduled freighter service from Lakselv preferably to South Korea and China, but at this moment no concrete project seems to be on the horizon, says Mr Jordet.
