Nov 14, 2019 (newstodate): The Iranian carrier Mahan Air is seeing its European network dwindling under pressure on European governments from US sanctions.
One more European airspace now closing for Mahan Air is Italy where the Italian Civil Aviation Authority has announced that Mahan air's operations on the routes from Tehran to Milan and Rome will end by December 15, 2019.
Since January 2019, Germany issued a similar ban on Mahan Air, followed by France in March 2019.
After the end of flights to Italian destinations, only Barcelona and Belgrade are now left on Mahan Air's route map, in addition to Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Sochi in Russia.
From June 9, 2016, Mahan Air was operating two weekly rotations between Tehran and Copenhagen with Airbus A340 aircraft, with a third rotation planned to be added from June 13, 2017.
But the route was closed down again already from Mach 2017, allegedly after an inspection detected that the airline carried armed air marshals, which is not permitted under Danish law.
