Nov 12, 2019 (newstodate): Rosaviatsiya, Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency, is upbeat about sustained growth in passenger volumes through the country's airports.
For 2019, estimates are now that, counted together, the airports will see an 11 percent growth, y-o-y, including a growth by 25 percent in domestic air passenger volumes.
This leads towards the set goal of exceeding 300 mio passengers annually by 2024.
In 2018, the Russian airports handled about 207 mio passengers, up 11 percent, y-o-y, marking the first time in history that the number of air passengers exceeded the 200 million mark
Significantly, more than 50 percent, translating into some 116.1 mio pax, of all passengers in Russia were lifted by Russian airlines. This was also an increase by 10.5 percent, y-o-y.
Moscow's three international airport accounted for 46.7 percent of all passengers in 2018, reflecting the need for most domestic passengers to be routed through Moscow irrespectively of their eventual destinations.
