Nov 26, 2019 (newstodate): Only few days are left for Iceland's coming new low-cost carrier PLAY to fulfil its pledge of opening for bookings before the end of November 2019.
This is hardly going to happen, though, but to prove that the project is still alive and kicking, PLAY invited stakeholders in the Icelandic tourism industry to another presentation on Monday.
The delay in opening up for bookings as earlier announced may be due to lack of sufficient financial backing to secure the first aircraft needed for obtaining an operating licence which is again a precondition for obtaining slots necessary to launch commercial flights.
The core group behind the project still maintains that flights will commence in December 2019, starting out with two Airbus A321 aircraft, growing to six aircraft in 2020, and to 10 aircraft within the first three years of operation.
Among the first destinations from Keflavik will be London, Berlin, Copenhagen, Paris, Alicante and Tenerife, and from 2020 plans comprise flights to four destinations in North America - with options including Boston, New York, Baltimore, and Toronto
