Nov 29, 2019 (newstodate): Is Norwegian to scrap its adventure in Argentina, launched in 2017 through the subsidiary Norwegian Air Argentina?
According to media reports, nurtured by a stop to bookings beyond the end of this winter's schedule while still unconfirmed by the Norwegian Group, Norwegian may be preparing to sell or close its Argentinian subsidiary, with JetSmart Argentina, owned by Indigo Partners, said to be a candidate to take over the operations.
While the coming new Norwegian Group CEO, Jacob Schram is to take office from January 1, 2020, replacing Bjorn Kjos, the current CFO and interim CEO, Geir Karlsen has earlier warned that the Argentinian operations would be assessed and closed down, if not profitable.
Norwegian Air Argentina holds the right, and obligations, to eventually serve a network comprising 146 routes, of which only six are actually served at this moment with four Boeing 737-800 aircraft on the Argentinian AOC.
Norwegian's current services between London and Buenos Aires in Argentina are, however, to be continued in any event, being operated on Norwegian's AOC in the UK.
