Nov 08, 2019 (newstodate): On November 6, 2019, Riga Airport, DHL Latvia and real estate developer Castor Construction signed an agreement on the construction of what is claimed to be Europe's most modern shipment processing and logistics centre.
Within a year, a regional 4,500 sq m DHL shipment processing and logistics centre will be built at Riga Airport, allowing lessee DHL Express to offer faster and more convenient delivery of shipments to customers due to more efficient handling at the new sorting facility.
The agreement with the investor for DHL's lease of the terminal has been concluded for a period of 10 years, with an option for a further 15-20 years extension.
In 2019 on-line at Riga airport for 25 years, DHL is invariably among the airport's Top-3 carriers with flight operations by EAT as well as own freighters.
-The new DHL cargo logistics centre will ensure a stable long-term air cargo flow at Riga Airport, said Ilona Lice, Riga Airport Chairperson of the Board, at the signing ceremony.
-Considering the rapidly changing dynamics of air cargo shipments, the main and decisive role in attracting and developing the international cargo logistics solution at Riga Airport is the development of low-cost infrastructure, high quality of services, clear and simple customs procedures, and added value that based on innovations can be created by cargo companies and regulatory authorities.
