Nov 29, 2019 (newstodate): The Czech charter and ACMI carrier Smartwings, earlier named Travel Service, has landed an ACMI contract with flydubai.
Under the contract, Smartwings will place four Boeing 737-800 aircraft with the Gulf LCC during the period December 14, 2019, and January 25, 2020, to supplement the carrier’s fleet of 40 Boeing 737-800 aircraft and adding capacity during the busy seasonal travel period.
The need for supplementary aircraft capacity is also driven by the current grounding since March 2019 of the carrier's 14 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
-The continued grounding of our MAX aircraft has had a significant impact on our operations with a 30 percent reduction of our flying schedule, says Ghaith Al Ghaith, flydubai CEO, in a comment to the ACMI contract - the first between the two parties.
The largest airline in the Czech Republic, Smartwings operates a fleet of 38 aircraft including 27 Boeing 737-800 and two Boeing 737-900ER aircraft, as well as seven grounded Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
