Nov 25, 2019 (newstodate): Hainan Airlines is to return services to Hungary from December 2019.
The carrier has announced the re-opening of flights on the route between Chengdu and Budapest from December 27, 2019, with two weekly rotations using Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
Hainan Airlines was actually the first Chinese carrier to enter the Hungarian market with flights from Beijing from May 2004 with thrice-weekly rotations operated with Boeing 767-300 aircraft in cooperation with Malev, but pulled out again from March 5, 2012, after Malev went bust.
With the return of services to Hungary, Hainan Airlines becomes the third Chinese carrier calling at Budapest Airport, after Shanghai Airlines has announced the opening of flights on the new route from Shanghai via Xian to Budapest from December 30, 2019, with two weekly rotations using Boeing 787-9 aircraft, and Air China on the route between Beijing and Budapest, served since May 1, 2015, with four weekly rotations.
