Nov 12, 2019 (newstodate): The Armenian carrier Taron-Avia has now ceased operating and stopped all business.
Armenia’s Civil Aviation Committee revoked the carrier's AOC earlier this month after an inspection detected serious safety flaws.
The airline was granted a six-month grace period to allow for correcting the safety issues - but instead the owners behind the airline has decided to cease operations, effectively stopping all activities and handing its aircraft back to the lessor.
Founded in 2007, Taron-Avia with three Boeing 737-500 aircraft in the fleet also suspended operations in 2018, but returned to the air again this spring eyeing a niche in circumventing the Russian ban on direct flights between Russia and Georgia by routing its traffic via Armenia from April 2019.
