Oct 14, 2019 (newstodate): The privately-owned Ukrainian charter and LCC carrier SkyUp Airlines has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737-900ER aircraft.
The aircraft, earlier operated by the Indian carrier Jet Airways, was delivered at Kiev Airport on October 10, 2019, on a lease contract with GECAS.
Already the next day, the aircraft entered commercial service with the carrier, and plans are to add one more before the end of 2019.
In the fleet of SkyUp Airlines are two Boeing 737-700 and six Boeing 737-800 aircraft, and plans are to add two more aircraft by March 2020.
SkyUp has only just passed a severe ordeal after a court ruling to suspend its AOC in May 2019 - a verdict reversed only in September 2019.
Plans are to grow the fleet to 9 aircraft in 2019, 13 in 2020, 14 in 2021, and up to 18 in 2022.
SkyUp is fully owned by Ukrainian capital, with 50 percent of the stake held by the two owners behind the country's leading tour operator JoinUp, Tatiana and Yuri Alba.
