Oct 18, 2019 (newstodate): The Lithuanian charter and ACMI carrier GetJet Airlines plans to become the third Baltic carrier to set up a subsidiary in Malta.
Plans are thus underway to obtain a Maltese AOC and establish a subsidiary on Malta to benefit from Malta's liberal business environment, attractive air services agreements and - not least - Malta's Category 1 Safety Certificate, issued by FAA, allowing airlines to serve the US market.
The Latvian ACMI carrier SmartLynx obtained its AOC issued by Malta's MAviOon April 18, 2019, and is thus now cleared to offer charter and ACMI services through its Maltese subsidiary SmartLynx Malta that started out with one Airbus A320, leased from Aercap and delivered March 25, 2019, in the fleet.
Lithuania's Avion Express' subsidiary Avion Express Malta obtained its Maltese AOC in May 2019, starting out with one Airbus A320 aircraft that commenced flights for Norwegian on May 20, 2019, under an ACMI contract for the 2019 summer peak season.
Avion Express Malta applied for Foreign Air Carrier Permits and Exemption Authority by the US regulator DOT on July 3, 2019, and was granted rights on August 22, 2019, opening up for new business potentials as a provider of ACMI narrow-body services in the US market.
