Oct 10, 2019 (newstodate): According to Seattle Times, Boeing has found cracks in a structure connecting the wings to the fuselage on five percent of the Boeing 737NG aircraft so far inspected.
Out of 686 aircraft, the issue has thus been found on 36 aircraft that are due for a three-weeks grounding for repair works on the structural parts.
Acting on an alert from Boeing, the U.S. FAA issued an urgent directive requiring the checks on Boeing 737NG aircraft with more than 30,000 total flights by Oct 10, 2019, affecting some 165 aircraft operated by US airlines.
Next, aircraft with 22,600 to 29,999 flights must be inspected over the next 1,000 flights.
Globally, airlines operate about 6,800 737NG aircraft.
The Danish ACMI and charter carrier Jet Time operates a fleet of 10 Boeing 737NG aircraft, while Norwegian operates a fleet comprising 106 Boeing 737NG aircraft.
