Oct 15, 2019 (newstodate): A new airline may be under formation in Slovenia to succeed Adria Airways that folded its wings on October 1, 2019.
Supported by the Slovenian government and tentatively named Air Slovenia, the new carrier may lift-off on its first flight already in February 2020 with a fleet of 12 aircraft on a route network comprising 15 destinations in Europe.
Little confirmed information has so far been provided, but sources claim that former Adria Airways employees are involved in the process that may also include a foreign airline partner.
Speculations are that the Estonian carrier Nordica that worked closely with Adria Airways may be one option to take over some or all of Adria's routes in cooperation with another airline and taking over the CRJ900 aircraft leased by Adria Airways.
Serving from May 1, 2019, as the now-defunct Adria Airways' last CEO, the Estonian national Sven Kukemelk was earlier serving as Nordica Aviation Group's Exec Director Business Development till September 2018 when he moved to Adria Airways as COO.
