Oct 07, 2019 (newstodate): The Romanian carrier Blue Air is to let go of eight aircraft before the end of this year, leaving it with only 14 aircraft.
The aircraft leaving the carrier are eight of 10 Boeing 737-300, -400 and -500 aircraft that would require extensive upgrading to be allowed to continue operating in EU airspace after the end of this month, and this upgrading would not be economically viable for the ageing aircraft.
The airline will thus be left with two remaining Boeing 737 Classic and 12 Boeing 737-800 aircraft, and Blue Air will thus cut charter production in the coming season, and decrease frequency on scheduled routes.
The carrier has placed orders for 12 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, with deliveries slated to start from next year.
