Oct 29, 2019 (newstodate): The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine places a heavy toll on Ukraine International Airlines.
The airline's ban from Russian airspace is causing UIA to axe its flight program to optimize its cost management, and a new schedule for this winter's operations will take effect from November 16, 2019.
All UIA flights to destinations in Western Europe will be operated during the daytime, and frequencies to Brussels, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Krakow, and Madrid will be increased up to seven times per week.
Flights between from Kiev to London and Vilnius will be operated double-daily, while flights on routes to Amman, Minsk, and Riga will be discontinued.
On the intercontinental scene, UIA flights between Kiev and Toronto launched in September 2017 will increase from two to three weekly rotations, flights to Delhi launched on May 1, 2018, will continue with five weekly rotations, while another two weekly flights will be added in summer 2020.
East-bound, the non-stop services to Beijing launched on April 29, 2015, will be put on hold, while flights to Bangkok, originally opened by Aerosvit on November 4, 2002, and taken over by UIA after Aerosvit's collapse in 2013, will be reduced to three weekly rotations.
-The changes will be introduced on November 16, 2019, and be in effect until the government of Ukraine comes up with an efficient solution for ensuing arm’s length terms for Ukrainian carriers that are obliged to by-pass the airspace of the Russian Federation when operating eastbound flights, UIA says in a release.
