Oct 02, 2019 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier airBaltic has retreated from its earlier plan to phase out the last remaining Boeing 737 aircraft by the end of November 2019.
Instead, the carrier will continue flights till late in March 2020 with two Boeing 737-300 aircraft on 11 routes including flights between Riga and Copenhagen, Stockholm and Helsinki as well as Tallinn.
Earlier, Stockholm Airport was poised to see its last Boeing 737-300 flight on October 30, 2019, and Copenhagen Airport would bid farewell to the airBaltic aircraft on October 31, 2019 - and the last Boeing 737-300 flight by airBaltic would be performed on the route from Riga to Munich on November 13, 2019, while Tallinn would see the last-ever Boeing 737-300 operation on October 31, 2019.
In March 2019, airBaltic entrusted Skytech-AIC to market four of the six Boeing 737-300 and two Boeing 737-500 aircraft together with their CFM56 engines.
Earlier, three of the carrier's Boeing 737-500 aircraft found a new life with Lithuania's KlasJet, with the first ex-airBaltic Boeing 737-500 aircraft entering service with KlasJet from January 2019, and the next two in Q2, 2019.
airBaltic is instead building up its fleet of Airbus A220-300 aircraft, now operating 20 aircraft of the type and planning to end this year with 22 in the fleet after taking delivery of the first two of 30 aircraft ordered as the second batch.
