Oct 17, 2019 (newstodate): Only two months after announcing its first flights to Georgia, in the Caucasus region, Ryanair is now adding Armenia to its geography.
The LCC will start operations to Yerevan and Gyumri from Milan, Rome, Berlin and Memmingen, with operations to start from January 2020.
First to come from January 14, 2020, are two weekly rotations on routes between Milan Bergamo and Rome and Yerevan, followed by two weekly flights between Berlin and Yerevan from April, and rounded off with two weekly flights between Memmingen and Gyumri from April.
Ryanair has actually been sniffing at the Armenian market already from 2013, with plans for start of services in 2014.
At the same time, the Armenian Tourism Center earlier this year revealed talks with another European LCC, presumably Wizz Air, over the opening of flights into Gyumri, in the country's northwestern region, close to the border with Turkey.
Armenia introduced an open skies policy in 2013 and has since seen foreign carriers entering the market, while efforts by Armenia to sustain an own national carrier have failed repeatedly.
In August 2019 Ryanair announced its first-ever flights from Georgia, the 39th country in the Ryanair network, with a new route from Tbilisi to Milan Bergamo and two new routes from Kutaisi to Bologna and Marseille, to start in November as part of Ryanair’s Winter 2019 schedule.
Ryanair will also connect Tbilisi to Cologne in April 2020 as part of Ryanair's Summer 2020 schedule.
