Oct 01, 2019 (newstodate): Albania's new carrier Air Albania has taken in its second aircraft.
On September 22, 2019, a Boeing 737-800 aircraft was placed with the carrier on a wet-lease contract with Turkish Airlines, joining the Airbus A319 also leased from Turkish Airlines that has been strongly involved in establishing the carrier and holding 49 percent of the shares.
Air Albania performed its first flight on April 19, 2019, and in the pipeline is the opening of flights on routes from Tirana to Milan, Rome, Bologna and London, with the UK and Italian flights to commence already later this summer.
Ambitions even comprise flights by Air Albania to North America - which is probably in the more distant future..
Managing the carrier as CEO is Sinan Dilek who is remembered in the Nordic aviation circles from this two years as Turkish Airlines General Manager Norway till April 2018.
Albania has great expectations to its new airline after being without a flag carrier since November 2011 when Albanian Air collapsed.
