Oct 30, 2019 (newstodate): Handling of pharma shipments is the focus of one of six working groups set up by Air Cargo Sweden that is acutely aware of the need to find solutions.
The ACS Working Group Pharma represents a broad range of industry-partners, such as airlines, GSAs, freight forwarders and providers of cargo handling services.
At the working group's latest meeting, a task force comprising Anders-Petter Pettersson, GeodisWilson, Joakim Frank, Nordic GSA, Michaela Eklund, Kuehne + Nagel and Peter Sandberg, WFS, was set up to work on a Business Case to be presented to Swedavia and ACS.
Solutions will require investments by stake-holders, with the price for one temperature-controlled tarmac transporter estimated to be around SEK 700,000.
But the market is there: according to Sweden's Pharma Boardroom, pharmaceuticals are Sweden's fourth largest export, following road vehicles, machinery and electronics, and in 2018, the value of Swedish pharmaceutical exports was nearly twice the value of pharmaceutical imports.
Swedish pharma's principal export markets are Germany, China and the USA, and its pharma market is reportedly the largest in the Nordics region.
