Jan 04, 2019 (newstodate): SAS is now looking forward to finally take delivery of its first airbus A350-900 aircraft by the end of this year.
In October 2014, SAS firmed up its MoU signed in June 2013 with Airbus for eight Airbus A350-900 aircraft, with options for a further six aircraft.
According to the MoU, SAS would take delivery of its first of eight Airbus A350-900 aircraft in 2018, but the delivery scheme was adjusted in 2016 as a consequence of the airline's financial problems at the time.
As matters stand now, SAS will take delivery of its first Airbus A350 with production number 358 by November/December 2019, followed by deliveries of the second and third aircraft by spring 2020, and the fourth aircraft by autumn/winter 2020.
The remaining four aircraft on firm orders will then be delivered in 2021.
In the Nordic context, Finnair received its first Airbus A350 aircraft from Airbus on October 7, 2015, as the first European operator of this aircraft type, and now operates 12 A350 aircraft.
The carrier will take delivery of two aircraft in 2019, with the first to be handed over by February and the second in April, 2019.
Finnair will then take in two A350 in 2021, and the last of the 19 aircraft ordered will follow in 2022.
Earlier, the last Airbus A350 for Finnair was slated for delivery in 2023, so while SAS deferred its A350 deliveries, Finnair has actually moved its delivery scheme forward.
