Jan 31, 2019 (newstodate): Slovakia needs a national carrier to grow the country's connectivity, says the country's prime minster.
In an interview with a national media, the PM is mulling plans for setting up a new airline to serve the country, especially in the wake of a gradual retreat from the Slovak market by the Czech carrier CSA and the lack of a national airline to secure flights on both domestic and intentional routes.
Funded initially by the Slovak state, the project will seek participation from private investors, and the airline would have a fleet of regional aircraft the size of Embraer 190 to operate a domestic network from Bratislava to Kosice and Poprad as well as to a number of European destinations.
Today only Air Explore and Travel Service is operating in Slovakia's charter and ACMI market while Air Slovakia folded its wings back in 2010.
Once a political decision is made on launch of the project, about two years of preparation would be needed before the first flight by a new carrier would be in the air.
