Jan 24, 2019 (newstodate): In a release on January 23, 2019, SAS announced its decision to add a new aircraft type to its fleet: Airbus A321LR.
The carrier has signed a leasing agreement with Air Lease Corporation comprising three Airbus A321LR aircraft, with the first aircraft to enter commercial service by H1, 2020.
While no specific info was provided on the allocation of the three long-range aircraft, SAS noted that narrow-body aircraft has sufficient range to reach Northeast US as well as destinations in Canada, the Middle East and India from Scandinavia.
The new routes will gradually be communicated from spring 2019, the SAS release states.
With a lower-density cabin the Airbus A321LR can operate routes spanning almost 7,400 km, 930 km longer than the regular A321 aircraft.
