Jan 25, 2019 (newstodate): A Norwegian Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft has been stuck on ground in Shiraz, Iran since December 14, 2018 - and the situation remains unsolved.
The aircraft was forced to land at Shiraz International Airport en-route from Dubai to Oslo as it experienced an engine problem.
While passengers were brought home to Oslo later the same day by another aircraft from the carrier, the aircraft remains ground due to the on-site lack of spare parts, while technicians from Norwegian are in place to perform the repair work.
Several factors impede the operation, however.
First, the US ban on trade with Iran has complicated the import of the US-made spare-parts.
Next, as a further consequence of the harsh US sanctions the international payment systems for transfer of money have been severed in the case of dealings with Iran.
To this now comes a further factor in the form of the current partial shut-down of several US government institutions and functions as a result of the rift between the US president and the Senate.
