Jan 09, 2019 (newstodate): With effect from January 1, 2019, the Icelandic ACMI and charter carrier Air Atlanta Icelandic has implemented changes in its top-exec management. Serving as the company's CEO since 2006, Hannes Hilmarsson will assume a new role as Exec Chairman of Air Atlanta Icelandic and Managing Director of Air Atlanta's sister company, Northern Lights Leasing. His replacement as CEO is Baldvin M. Hermannsson, with Air Atlanta from 2001, since 2008 as Snr VP Sales and Marketing and a member of Air Atlanta’s Executive Committee, and heading the airline's business development and sales activities. Mr Hermannsson's former position has now been filled by Unndor Jonsson, with Air Atlanta from 1996 until 2007 in various flight operations roles and returning in 2018 as Director Travel. According to Air Atlanta Icelandic, the organizational changes aim at strengthening the focus on Air Atlanta's fleet growth and fleet renewal, strengthening the business development and strategic planning of Air Atlanta and its sister companies, and enhancing the company's aircraft investment strategy. Starting operations on February 10, 1986, with one Boeing 707 aircraft, Air Atlanta Icelandic currently operates a fleet comprising 12 Boeing 747-400 passenger and freighter aircraft, plus one Airbus 340-300 on a management contract with a customer. With Boeing 747-400 in sparse supply in the coming years and with the gradual phasing-out of the aircraft now in the fleet, the airline is preparing for a fleet renewal process in the coming few years.
