Jan 18, 2019 (newstodate): The next Airbus A350 aircraft for Finnair is now in the air, with the first test flight on January 17, 2019.
The aircraft is thus right on schedule for delivery in February 2019, as one of only two new aircraft to join Finnair's current fleet of 12 A350 aircraft.
The next 14th aircraft is slated for delivery already in April 2019, two more will follow in 2020, two in 2021, and the last of the 19 aircraft so far ordered in 2022.
Finnair received its first Airbus A350 aircraft from Airbus on October 7, 2015, as the first European operator of this aircraft type.
Due to an aging narrow-body fleet, Finnair plans to retire 26 Airbus A320–family aircraft by 2022, while retaining the 12 newest Airbus A321 aircraft.
The airline plans to replace the old aircraft with either 20-30 new Airbus A320neo family or Boeing 737 MAX new-generation aircraft.
