Jan 10, 2019 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier RAF-AVIA is facing a challenging time in terms of aircraft capacity.
In the fleet of the carrier are two SAAB 340B aircraft, of which one suffered damages from a runway incursion at Savonlinna in Finland on January 7, 2019, and this incident is now under investigation leaving the future for this aircraft in the balance - and at least out of operational service for a lengthy period.
The second SAAB 340B aircraft has long been stuck on ground for lack of an engine.
On the positive side, the carrier how has two ATR-72 freighter aircraft operating, and plans are to add a third ATR, an ATR-42 in passenger version to boost the passenger operations.
RAF-Avia earlier operated four AN-26 freighters, two of which were divested of in 2018, leaving one in scheduled operations for an integrator customer while the second AN-26 is currently out of service.
