Jan 14, 2019 (newstodate): Tajikistan's state-owned national carrier Tajik Air is on the verge of extinction.
The carrier has thus suspended all operations, and all flights have been deleted from its published time-table.
Tajik Air has obviously been unable to stand the competition from the privately-owned Somon Air.
As late as autumn 2018, the Tajik state was still making efforts to rescue the carrier, and an order was placed for delivery of four Bombardier aircraft including two CRJ200 and two CRJ900 aircraft, with the first two CRJ200 aircraft to be delivered before the end of the year, and the two CRJ900 aircraft slated for delivery in 2019.
The Tajik state also mulled plans for putting the entire stake in the airline up for sale to an investor willing to re-shape the airline and invest in new aircraft.
These efforts are probably off the agenda now.
Tajik Air's fleet now comprises seven aircraft including five Boeing 737 Classic aircraft.
