Jan 25, 2019 (newstodate): Hungary's Budapest Airport is thriving in cargo volumes, setting a new record again in 2018.
A total of 146,113 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport in 2018, an increase by 14.9 percent, y-o-y, and rising year by year since 2015.
Contributing to the growth are major investments in cargo-related airport infrastructure including the commissioning of an 16,000 sq m cargo warehouse and office capacity for integrator partners in 2017, to which will be added a new 32,000 sq m cargo apron capable of handling two Boeing 747-8F freighters, and work is progressing on the construction of a new 20,000 sq m Cargo City, allowing the airport to expand the total cargo handling capacity to 250,000 tonnes per year, as well as an additional 10,000 sq m forwarder building.
Among the airport's key cargo carriers are now Cargolux, ABC Airlines, Silk Way West, Turkish Cargo and Qatar Airways Cargo - in addition to passenger airlines carrying cargo in belly holds.
