Jan 18, 2019 (newstodate): Latvia's Riga Airport exited 2019 with a rise in cargo volumes - despite the loss of Turkish Cargo's freighter service.
A total of 28,170 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport, which was an increase by 10.7 percent, y-o-y.
The growth was supported by Turkish Cargo's twice-weekly Airbus A330-200F service from July 1, 2017, at Riga Airport that, however, lost this traffic after the company moved the service to Lithuania's Vilnius Airport from April 19, 2018.
This naturally affects the 2018 statistics as the first half year prior to TK Cargo's freighter shows extremely high increases, percentage-wise, while the latter part of the year show more modest, but still substantial monthly growth.
This, however, proves that air cargo volumes were indeed rising significantly in 2018 at Riga Airport - even without the loads on Turkish Cargo's freighter.
