Jan 04, 2019 (newstodate): Norway's exports of fresh salmon to the Chinese marked did increase significantly in 2018 - albeit still to modest levels, compared to the pre-Nobel Prize years. According to fresh statistics, the direct export to China in 2018 totaled 11,995 tonnes against a mere 3,288 tonnes in 2017 while it should be noted that until last year, exports to China used also several indirect venues, including Vietnam, to bypass the strict Chinese embargo. In December 2018 alone, the shipments for China were 142 tonnes compared to only 68 in 2017. In early 2017, the Norwegian Seafood Council said that China's total full-year import of Norwegian salmon might rise to 42,000 tonnes already in 2017, and other Norwegian estimates were that the export to China might reach 70,000 tonnes by 2020.
