Jan 17, 2019 (newstodate): Figures on Norway's seafood exports are always in multi-digits. But even so, the country did see a drop in seafood exports by air in 2018.
According to fresh statistics from a well-placed source in the industry, a total of 215,499,600 kg of salmon, salmon fillets and trout was lifted by air from Norway, which was actually 9,154,800 kg, or about four percent, less than in the preceding year.
With a drop by 1,550,400 kg, Japan continued the downward trend seen during the last few years, shipments by air to Singapore were down by 3,834,000 kg and loads to Israel also dropped by 1,756,800 kg.
Other markets with a negative trend in 2018 were Taiwan, Canada and Malaysia.
As a result of the slamming of the "back door" to China during the embargo period ending in 2018, seafood shipments to Vietnam declined heavily by 21,789,600 kg to a mere 5,914,800 kg.
However, the increase in Norway's seafood by air in 2018 to China and Hong Kong - at 10,448,400 and 3,796,800 kg, respectively - thus still failed to match the drop in volumes earlier shipped to China through Vietnam.
Shining brightly in the statistics is South Korea where volumes in 2018 increased by 5,964,000 kg to 24,408,000 kg, while seafood shipments by air to the USA were also up by 698,400 kg to 49,567,200 kg - by far the largest market in these statistics.
