Sep 24, 2018 (newstodate): Norway's seafood exporters can obviously consume almost any uplift capacity offered in the market.
Two new freighter projects at Oslo Airport have long been on the table, but despite earlier estimates for launch of services, little is heard to confirm to expectations.
One project, first aired at the Nordic Air Cargo Symposium in Stockholm on April 17, 2018, concerns setting up a freighter service from Oslo to New York JFK operated by Saudia Cargo to bring seafood exports to the North American market.
According to Rainer Muller, Saudia Cargo Regional Director Europe, a decision would be taken latest by mid of May, but nothing has been heard of this since a two-day seminar in April, arranged by Avinor, with stakeholders in Norway's seafood industry to seek industrial commitment to the new service.
Another project is an Ethiopian Airlines Cargo Boeing 777-200F flying from Addis Abeba to Lagos, in Nigeria, to Oslo, and continuing to Guangzhou via a stop at Liege to load other European shipments for China.
According to industry sources, the planned start of services was slated for September 27, 2018 - but so far nothing is heard about progress in these plans, and Ethiopian Airlines Cargo has also not confirmed this date either.
