Sep 27, 2018 (newstodate): China is eager to promote the southern island of Hainan as a new "Hawaii".
To boost the efforts, visitors from 59 countries including EU member states can stay for up to 30 days at Hainan without visas, provided the travels are booked through qualified travel agencies in Hainan Island.
A delegation from Hainan's tourism industry has been touring the Nordic markets in September to attract attention to the new leisure destination.
As one example, Ukraine is keen to utilize these new opportunities and has negotiated rights to open air traffic to Haikou and Sanya on Hainan by Ukrainian carriers.
Three Ukrainian airlines have queued up for the new business, including Ukraine International Airlines, Azur Air Ukraine, and the new carrier SkyUp.
As part of the Chinese offer, the designated air carriers can perform an unlimited number of flights to Hainan Island, using 3rd and 4th freedom rights in transporting passengers and cargo between Ukraine and China.
Under the existing air services agreement between the two countries, airlines from each side can make up to 14 flights a week between Kiev and Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, but not more than seven flights per week in each direction.
Since its first flight on April 29, 2015, Ukraine International Airlines has been operating flights from Kiev to Beijing, China, and is now offering up to five weekly rotations on the route with its new Boeing 777 aircraft gradually replacing the Boeing 767-300 services.
