Sep 04, 2018 (newstodate): Reporting on its H1 2018 performance, the Swedish/UK cargo carrier West Atlantic notes a very strong double digit revenue growth of over 13 percent, y-o-y, in Q2.
The increase was a result of additional larger-sized Boeing 737 aircraft contracts coming on line.
While the total number of flights performed in the quarter and year-to-date was down compared to the same period previous year, revenues were up as an effect of larger aircraft replacing smaller ones and the exchange effect of a weaker SEK.
The Group is however battling against continued costs related to the parked ATP fleet and ATP spare part inventory, increased cost for aircraft line maintenance, and start-up costs associated with the Boeing 737-800 of which one aircraft has been in the fleet since May, but did not commence dedicated revenue operation until July 2, 2018.
FedEx has emerged as the prime contractor for West Atlantic's Boeing 737-800 converted freighter now operating for Fedex out of Liege.
FedEx will thus operate two of the new Boeing 737-800BCF as well as two Boeing 737-400F aircraft.
The additional three Boeing 737-800 converted aircraft will be joining, with one aircraft in each of the next three quarters.
15 of the carrier's ATP freighter fleet remain parked pending sale or part-out.
West Atlantic also plans to add in 2018 a fourth Boeing 767-200SF freighter to its fleet now comprising 62 aircraft including 14 Boeing 737-400, seven Boeing 737-300SF and two CRJ200PF - and 35 ATP freighters.
