Sep 19, 2018 (newstodate): Azerbaijan's Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport is aiming at becoming the largest airport in the Caucasus region, measured in passenger throughput.
The airport expects to be handling over seven mio passengers in 2020, according to its current ambitious plan. This would be an increase by 72.4 percent over 2017 when volumes reached 4.06 mio passengers.
During the first eight months of 2018, the Azeri airport handled 3.08 mio passengers, up 12 percent, y-o-y, compared to Georgia's Tbilisi Airport with 2.56 mio, but also up 30 percent y-o-y in H1/18, and Armenia's airports at Yerevan and Gyumri with a joint total of 1.87 mio passengers.
