Sep 04, 2018 (newstodate): It has been long in the making - but Ryanair is now finally online with flights in the Ukrainian market.
The first flight was performed on September 3, 2018, opening the route between Kiev Boryspil and Berlin Schonefeld Airport.
The route will be operated four times weekly, and is the first of 12 routes from Kiev in this winter's schedule, including flights to Stockholm and Vilnius.
Ryanair's plans for Ukraine have indeed come a long way, first appearing already 10 years ago.
And in 2012, Ukraine's Ministry of Infrastructure was meeting with Ryanair aiming at attracting the carrier to launch flights into the Ukrainian market, specifically singling out flights on routes from Lviv and Donetsk to London, Paris and Barcelona.
Ryanair was last expected to enter the Ukrainian market from March 2017, with flights on four routes from Kiev and seven routes from Lviv.
These plans were, however stalled pending solution of outstanding issues with Ukraine over airport charges - but these issues have now been solved.
