Sep 17, 2018 (newstodate): Latvia's Riga Airport is pinning great hopes on sustained growth in e-shipments for transit to other markets.
In 2017, Post Lavia landed an agreement with Alibaba's logistics arm, Cainiao aiming at boosting cooperation in onward distribution via Riga Airport of Chinese e-shipments to destinations in the CIS markets.
-Already in 2017, Riga Airport handled some 20 freighter flights carrying Alibaba goods for onward distribution to other markets, says Arthur Kokars, Riga Airport Advisor to the Board.
-This first year of operations has tested the infrastructure, and as this has now been asserted, we are ready to boost this traffic providing a full logistics chain based on the commitment from all parties involved, which comprises the airport, Latvian Customs and handling partners.
-The prime parameters for the air cargo industry are short handling times and cost-efficiency in operations, and Riga Airport has developed an infrastructure to support this development.
-Our efforts are now focused on attracting cargo airlines to Riga Airport to bolster our offerings to the e-trade business, says Mr Kokars.
