Sep 06, 2018 (newstodate): On May 21, 2018, Canada and Serbia signed a new Air Services Agreement.
With the agreement, lights ahead are green for opening scheduled flights between Canada and Belgrade by designated airlines from the two sides, and expectations that flights between Toronto and Belgrade may commence in 2019.
The supposed route will be serving not least the large Serb diaspora in Canada, totaling more than 100,000 people.
Flights between Serbia and Canada were last operated by the Canadian charter carrier Skyservice, that started flights from Toronto to Belgrade in 2004 with Boeing 757 aircraft as the first North American carrier with flights to markets in the former Yugoslavia.
The carrier, however, went bust in 2010, leaving the route without service.
Until the civil wars in the Balkans, JAT Yugoslav Airlines operated services from Belgrade to Toronto and Montreal.
