Sep 25, 2018 (newstodate): Copenhagen Airport is to open a new Cargo Center by the end of 2019, focusing on handling of belly cargo.
In 2017, cargo in belly holds accounted for 117,330 tonnes, freighter operations generated 66,535 tonnes, mail volumes were 26,997 tonnes and trucked cargo generated 85,531 tonnes - and while cargo on freighters are declining, belly hold volumes are driving the growth in volumes at the airport, with 55 percent of the cargo transiting, reflecting the role as an efficient cargo transfer point in the Nordic and Baltic region.
While a future operator of the coming cargo terminal is yet to be announced, the project for the new 20,000 sq m terminal dedicated to handling of belly cargo is developed in a partnership with the German investor AXXUS.
Serving as one visible manifestation of the new project is an internet site, worldcargocenter-cph.com
To further bolster efforts to drive air cargo development at Copenhagen Airport, a team has been set up, reporting to Morten Mortensen, Copenhagen Airport Director Airline Sales & Route Development, and dedicated to these endeavors headed by Lars Gotfredsen as Copenhagen Airport Air Cargo Manager.
