Sep 21, 2018 (newstodate): From October 31, 2018, Finnair will return Airbus A330 services between Helsinki and Brussels on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The wide-body services will thus replace the current services using Airbus A319/Embraer 190 aircraft and offer a fast transfer for goods in Helsinki, with the possibility of same-day connections to Asia saving up to 24 hours.
Brussels is in the heart of Europe's pharma clusters and a key cargo destination for airlines, including Finnair.
In April 2013, Finnair Cargo opened its second European cargo hub at Brussels Zaventem Airport, and from June 6, 2013, Finnair introduced an Airbus A340-300 aircraft on Thursday morning flights between Helsinki and Brussels, in addition to its MD-11F rotations between Brussels and Helsinki on Saturdays and Sundays, replacing the MD-11F with Airbus A300-600F from European Air Transport from May 2014.
From the turn of the year 2014/15, Finnair ceased own freighter traffic and contracted instead DHL to provide the uplift from Brussels into its hub at Helsinki Airport.
This cooperation with DHL is thus now ending as Finnair introduces the twice-weekly A330 services offering a ULD dimensions match as the key to speed up the transit in Helsinki Airport.
